A midcycle refresh of the Volkswagen Golf is around the corner

Volkswagen is hard at work to redo its entire future product strategy amid pressure from Dieselgate.

What’s going on?

A new report from AutoCar indicates that Volkswagen is on the verge of introducing an updated mid-range Golf of the current seventh generation. Due to the recent Dieselgate diesel scandal, many of us are wondering what Volkswagen is offering for American golf. Our bets on any revised diesel models are fully in our books.

What’s going to change?

This is obviously the most important question, but its features are completely unknown. An AutoCar report says updates should be minimal and simple. This implies some subtle aesthetic changes to the exterior, such as new front and rear bumpers, updated front and rear lights, and more.

You can also expect minor changes in packaging and pricing, although Volkswagen plans to truly increase the rate in the domestic Golf market. Rumor has it that the new Golf interior may include the new Volkswagen Digital Cockpit concept. This means that the updated Golf can get a new 12.5-inch cluster display compared to the current analog setting. It is planned that more luxurious models will receive a new large 9.5-inch information screen that mimics the iPad-like screen of the Tesla center console.

Will the Golf still receive the same engines?

It is believed that Europe continues to receive a mixture of small but powerful turbocharged and gasoline engines. The future drivetrain for the U.S. Golf specification is a bit more obscured, especially given the controversy surrounding Volkswagen’s current diesel models. Because of Dieselgate, we seriously doubt that the updated Golf will retain its 2.0L TDI option. However, expecting gasoline engines will be the only options.
